Jamie Calder

"The help of Performance Lifestyle has made a huge difference to both my sailing and my school work. My adviser’s involvement with the school really helped them appreciate my schedule.

With some support from my teachers, I now have extra study periods and am managing to organise my studies more efficiently. My school work has improved and I have got A passes in all of  my recent tests.

My sailing has also improved and am now ranked 5th in the UK at under 19 level. Next year I will have my National 5 exams and the help I have received at this stage will make a huge difference when I come to sit these important exams.”

Jamie Calder, an institute supported dinghy sailor, has achieved selection for the GB Laser Radial Youth Squad this year. This involves travelling to the South of England for training and competitions, or getting to Cumbrae National Watersports Centre in Largs most weekends.

He hopes to represent GB at the ISAF and World Youth Championships this Summer. In addition to meeting with school staff, Performance Lifestyle referred Jamie to a specialist dyslexia tutor who is helping him to develop strategies which enable him to learn more quickly.

His father says “The work with his tutor has made a huge difference and this appears to be making a big difference both to his studies and his confidence.”

Performance Lifestyle continues to support Jamie to successfully combine his  school studies with sailing, and to plan for his career beyond school.
