The sportscotland athlete personal award (SAPA) initiative is aimed at providing financial support to potential medal-winning athletes for Glasgow 2014.
This is 3 year programme which commenced in July 2011 and will terminate in August 2014.
Nominations are made by the Scottish Governing Bodies (SGBs) of the Glasgow 2014 sports. They are submitted for consideration by a panel of sportscotland staff, headed by Mike Whittingham (Director of High Performance), supported by input from the sport’s High Performance Manager.
Each individual nomination is supported by information from the SGB highlighting the athlete’s past track record, current position and future potential. The SGB is also asked to demonstrate how the award will add value and make a positive performance impact on training preparations and ultimately competition results.
Full disclosure of any additional financial support being received (GB/UK award, Winning Students award, sponsorship etc.) will be required before any award is agreed and processed.
Levels of Award
There are three categories of award: £3,000, £5,000 and £10,000. Awards can be used to cover athlete training, competition and living costs.
The total number of athletes supported will be based on medal winning potential.
SGBs targeting team medals can also submit nominations, with any submissions considered as a separate category by the panel.
The programme will be managed and directed by the sportscotland institute of sport.
